Public Relations Department

The Public Relations Department provides a complete agenda of the Theatre Institute’s public relations , as well as consulting services. On request it provides information about Slovak theatre and theatre abroad, prepares statistics on theatre and analytical materials from the area of cultural policy. It establishes the basis for the work of Slovak centres of non-governmental organizations in the field of theatre (OISTAT, ASSITEJ, SIBMAS, ITI, AICT) and cooperates with international non-governmental organizations (EFAH, IETM, FIRT).The department also collaborates with international cultural institutions that are active in Slovakia, as well as Slovak institutions abroad, particularly in order to exchange information and documentation about theatre events. It communicates with the media and with state-funded and non-state theatres. It ensures cooperation with the organizers of theatre events, festivals, conferences, theatre associations, or professional organizations working in the field of theatre. The department collaborates in the preparation of events organized or co-organized by the Theatre Institute, particularly exhibitions and other presentations of Slovak theatre, and publishes the journal kød – concretely on theatre.

Since January 2015, the activities of the Projects Department were moved under the authority of the Public Relations Department.

The Projects Department manages the coordination and content of a variety of educational and cultural projects, including the presentation of the Theatre Institute’s activities (symposia, book presentations, etc.). It regularly organizes educational activities (workshops, seminars, lectures and other specialized events) attended by international lecturers and guests. Every year, it hosts the DRAMA contest of original dramatic texts and the related stage reading of shortlisted texts called Triathlon. One of the department’s priorities is the organization of the Nová Dráma/New Drama festival of contemporary drama.

The department administers the programme and productions of the unique theatre space Studio 12, which has developed into an essential non-commercial platform for new drama and new media, and has complemented the production of bricks-and-mortar theatres in Slovakia. The original and guest theatre repertory of Studio 12 is supplemented by musical, performative, multimedia activities, as well as regular stage reading series and educational events (workshops, seminars, lectures). As part of the laboratory project Milk Teeth, the studio offers space for the coming generation of theatremakers and offers dramaturgical, production-related and technical support of their original authorial work. Studio 12 collaborates with numerous civic an non-profit associations on the project Peripheral Vision, which offers new possibilities of presenting the art activities of various marginalized groups, such as the homeless, physically disabled, vision or hearing impaired, ethnic minorities, people with different sexual orientation, etc. The Theatre Shortcuts project aims to gradually present the past and present of theatres from outside of Bratislava and of independent cultural centres. Presentations are always accompanied by a lecture and guest appearance of the invited theatre. In collaboration with selected professional theatres, the Theatre Institute organizes creative writing workshops for teenagers, announces the nationwide drama text contest for authors under 18 years titled Dramatically Young, and stages theatre plays for that age group. The project also supports the emergence of new professional texts for young audiences.
