The New Drama Project

The only festival of contemporary drama in Slovakia as well as in the former Czechoslovakian area offers in its main programme a complete survey of the most innovative contemporary drama and dramatic activities of professional theatres in Slovakia. The jury of international composition presents prestigious awards: the Award for the Best Contemporary Slovak Play, the Award for the Best Contemporary World´s Play, the Award for the Best Dramaturgy, the Surprise of the New Drama Award. The spectators decide by a poll about the Audience’s Prize which is presented by the Mayor of the City of Bratislava. The jury of the Dráma competition presents main awards of the competition. The specialized foreign programme always presents one country (in 2008 - Russia) in a form of a guest performance, stage reading, lecture, workshop or meeting with a selected playwright(s). The festival has an attractive and rich accompanying and working programme, which includes also the presentation of the finalists of the Dráma competition – the Theatre Triathlon.

Nová drama / New Drama 2005

The pilot 1st year of the festival was a non-competitive presentation and a final stage of tree-years-old educational project, Nová drama/New Drama (lectures, discussions and stage readings of contemporary world’s and Slovak drama). During 8 days 30 productions of theatres from Slovakia were presented as well as a guest production of the National Theatre form the Czech Republic. A part of the programme were: the Evening with the Theatre from the Passage from Banská Bystrica (the only community theatre of mentally challenged actors in Slovakia); the Triathlon of Stage readings, the European Translation Workshop partners meeting and the presentation of successful projects of the Culture 2000 programme.
