The Nová dráma / New Drama Festival is the only festival of its kind in Slovakia. The 5th year of the festival is to take place from May 11 - 16, 2009 in Bratislava.

Festival of contemporary Slovak and world drama Nová dráma / New Drama Festival was established in 2005 as an annual presentation of the best contemporary Slovak and world drama productions created by Slovak theatre makers. Visited by more than 30 foreign guests every year, the festival offers an overview of contemporary Slovak theatre, interesting insight into Slovak directors and playwrights´ work, a wide range of performances from different regions of Slovakia. The new feature of the festival from 2009 is its foreign section. This special section of the programme entitled Focus is an original presentation of contemporary drama and dramatists of foreign country. In 2009 we will present Serbia. Within the Focus Serbia project we organize lectures on contemporary drama and theatre in Serbia, meetings and staged readings with Serbian playwrights, encounters and discussions with our Serbian guests. There will be two productions of the visiting theatres from Serbia presented within the programme - Serbian National Theatre Novi Sad with A BOAT FOR DOLLS by Milena Markovic and Yugoslav Drama Theatre, Beograd with BARBARELO, ON DOGS AND CHILDREN by Biljana Srbljanovic. Special theory event about contemporary drama and new writing will be led by Aleks Sierz – British critic, journalist, writer and author of In-Yer-Face Theatre: British Drama Today. The festival is organized by the Bratislava Theatre Institute in cooperation with the Theatre Aréna. The festival is being held with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Slovak Republic.
