The European Translation Workshop

The European Translation Workshop (L´Ateliér Européen de la Traduction) covers theatre and cultural institutes of national character, which means that their artistic and cultural programmes are recognized by particular Ministries of Culture as well as cultural institutions of regions and cities: Artistas Unidos – Lisbon – Portugal / Astilleros – Madrid – Spain / Teatro Calderón - Valladolid – Spain / Outis – Milan – Italy / Teatro de la Limonaia – Florence – Italy / Associazione PAV - Roma – Italy / Indiktos Publishing House – Athens – Greece / The International Theatre Institute - Athens – Greece / The Temešvar National Theatre – Romania / The Debrecin Theatre – Hungary / The Theatre Institute - Bratislava – Slovakia / The National Stage in Orleáns – France.

From 1998 to 2008 the European Translation Workshop carried out approx. 400 translations of contemporary dramatic works. Into/from French, English, German, Arabic, Portuguese and its Brazilian version, Spanish, Italian, Greek, Bulgarian, Romanian, Hungarian, Russian and Slovak it translated various works from the European dramatic collection (of not only participating countries but also works from Finland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Island, Croatia, Poland and the Czech Republic) as well as texts of broader international collection (Russian, Japanese, American, Quebecoise, Columbian and Canadian).

The Bratislava Theatre Institute has been the partner of the project since 2005. The presentations, educational activities, translation and publishing projects are carried out in 3 programmes: OPEN, LABELEUROPA, DISCOVERERS. Also the Nová drama / NEW DRAMA Festival is organized within the project.

In October 2007 the partners of the project issued a united project of the European Translation Workshop for years 2008 – 2013 in the Culture 2000 programme. The main coordinator of the project is the National Theatre in Orléans, France. The project was supported by the EU and the Culture 2000 programme.
