The Dráma Competition
The DRÁMA competition is the only competition of Slovak original dramatic texts. Through it, from 2000 the Bratislava Theatre Institute has supported publishing and presenting of original Slovak texts. In the course of seven previous years there were 181 texts entering the competition, the Bratislava Theatre Institute published four DRÁMA collection books with 26 plays of the finalists. The winning texts were produced in the Slovak Chamber Theatre in Martin, the Slovak National Theatre, the GUnaGU Theatre, the Ján Palárik Theatre in Trnava or the Sudio12. Some of the plays were later translated into different languages and presented Slovak drama at various international festivals.
A traditional final stage of the competition is the TRIATHLON – stage readings of excerpts of finale texts interpreted by professional actors and important directors of younger generation, connected with discussion with the jury members and the authors. The Triathlon is an accompanying event of the annual May festival – the Nová drama/New Drama.
