Conference "Russian Drama in Theatre after 1989"
During the 4th year of the Nová dráma/New Drama Festival 2008 the Theatre Institute will organize an international conference named “Russian Drama in Theatre after 1989”. The conference is being held on May 12 and 13, 2008.
The conference is organized by the Theatre Research Centre which provides room for research of history and theory of Slovak and Central-European drama. It creates a platform for scientific and research work of Slovak and foreign theatre scientists.
The “Russian Drama in Theatre after 1989” conference will bring theoretical and critical contributions mapping the fields of interpretation and change of staging approach concerning Russian classical, modern and post-modern theatre texts.
The theme of the contributions should concern following fields:
- The change of interpretation of dramaturgical and directorial conception of classical, modern and/or contemporary Russian theatre texts in theatrical practice in the post-socialist countries.
- Directorial tendencies in staging classical, modern and/or contemporary Russian theatre texts.

The organizer covers expenses for accommodation for two nights, tickets for festival productions and events, and meals in the day of the conference.

The Theatre Institute is an institution whose aim is to provide Slovak and foreign public with complex services concerning fields of performing arts. Its main activities are scientific research, documentary activities, cultural, educational, information and presentation activities.
The Nová dráma/New Drama festival, organized by the Theatre Institute, presents, supports and promotes original contemporary theatre works and presentation of Slovak and foreign contemporary drama in Slovakia. The programme of the festival consists of: the main programme (more than 10 productions of professional theatres from and outside Bratislava and 1 performance of the visiting theatre); accompanying programme (The Triathlon – stage readings of the final texts of the Dráma competition, a presentation of projects such as Dramatically Young, stage-design and theatre photographs exhibition, music night-club and film screening); working programme (an international conference, creative writing and translation workshop, discussions) and the special programme.
