About 2019 Nová dráma/New Drama Festival

The fifteenth festival, organized by the Theatre Institute, will take place between 4 and 9 May 2019 in Bratislava. Ten productions were chosen by the dramaturgy board for the festival’s main programme – the productions will compete for three festival prizes. An international jury will decide on the main award – the Grand Prix of the Nová dráma/New Drama festival for best production. Participants of the young critics’ seminar, students of arts and humanities universities, will award the Student Jury Award. The production with the most votes from the audiences will receive the Bratislava Audience Award. The prizes will be given during the final ceremony on 9 May. The festival will include also the production nominated for the out-of-competition programme Future Found.

This year, the Focus programme section addresses the contemporary drama and theatre of Greece. An international conference titled Ecological Questions and Environmental Issues in Theatre and Performance will reveal many connections between performing arts and current ecological problems or the issues related to the effect of people on the environment that surrounds them. The conference will be attended by eminent theorists and active theatremakers dealing with this topic. Romanian playwright Gianina Cărbunariu will be the patron of the 15th festival. She will also lead the masterclass for Slovak theatremakers.
