European Contact Point

The coordinate and implementation body of the programme called Europe for Citizens 2007 - 2013 in Slovakia.
Financially supported by the Ministry of Culture of the Slovak Republic and the European Union, the European Contact Point was opened in the Theatre Institute in January 2011. Its primary role is promotion of the grant system of the Europe for Citizens 2007 – 2013 programme and a help for those applying for the grant with the preparation of international projects of civil activities.

The European Contact Point Slovakia (ECP)
ECP is a part of the international network of similar offices which have been established in 22 EU-Member States and Croatia, Macedonia (FYROM) and Albania. Its role is to promote the Europe for Citizens programme through information events in Slovak regions, and to help Slovak applicants in preparing projects and applications of international character. In this sense it is open to potential applicants and persons interested in further information.

The Europe for Citizens 2007 – 2013 Programme
The community programme of the EU called Europe for Citizens 2007 – 2013 supports a wide range of activities and organizations promoting “active European citizenship”, especially the involvement of citizens and civil society organizations in the process of European integration.
Within this programme local and regional bodies and non-profit organizations may obtain support for discussion events, conferences, workshops, sport events, studies and other various civil activities. The basic condition is for the projects to be based on international collaboration and to reflect current European issues.
Since 2004, when Slovakia joined the Europe for Citizens programme, many Slovak civil activities projects on international level have been supported. In its programme statement the present government set one of its priorities to be a creating of conditions for more effective use of finances for cultural and civil activities through structural funds and community programmes of the EU. As one of the measures fulfilling this priority, in relation to the EU bodies, the European Contact Point was established as a national coordination and implementation body of the Europe for Citizen programme, having resided in the Bratislava Theatre Institute.

Rightful applicants:

  • municipality
  • local /regional body or
  • federation / association of local bodies or
  • non-profit organization or partner committee with legal status representing local bodies (obligatory written assignment)
  • independent non-profit organization
